Please let me know your ‘sticky rubber’ experience if it has effected your Canon binoculars, or indeed, any other Canon products. In my opinion it is not right that manufacturers choose to use something in their manufacturing process that they know will be detrimental to their products in the long run. We may live in a throw-away society but that does not make it right. If we pay for quality then those items should give many years of trouble free service.
